Digital Scale and Weight Watcher's Calculator

A digital scale is helpful because it provides preciseness when measuring food. The oatmeal I eat says that a serving size is a half cup of dry oatmeal or 40g. When I scoop out a half cup and weigh the oatmeal, I've never gotten 40g. I've gotten 43g or 46g so instead of going by my dry measurement cup, I measure out 40g to cook. Did you know one, measly gram could be the difference between four pts + and 5 pts +?

A Weight Watcher's Digital Scale is not necessary to follow Weight Watchers, but it is very useful in that it provides points plus values for some common foods. For foods that are not stored in the scale's database, one simply weighs the item and then inputs necessary values (fat, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and serving size in grams) to arrive at a points plus value. This is a good feature for a person who doesn't want to eat a prescribed serving size. I like to eat serving sizes (as prescribed by a package), but Fred likes to eat "points" sizes. For example, I usually eat an ounce of tortilla chips or four ounces of fish. When I ask Fred how many or how much of something he wants, he says five points or 8 points not one serving or two servings.

Because I do not have ETools, I find the Weight Watchers digital scale essential to my tracking. With a typical digital scale, a Weight Watchers points calculator I would have to eat easily computable servings like 1.5 or 1.75 servings rather than 1.57 servings.

A Weight Watchers calculator (like the one pictured above or one on a smart phone) is obviously essential to anyone attempting to follow the Weight Watchers Points Plus plan. To use the calculator, one must input in grams fat, carbohydrates, protein, and fiber of a serving as noted on a package. The calculator is also used to determine one's daily points allowance. Online members or meeting with ETools can find this information online.

Free Weights

SelectTechs by Bowflex have proven to quite useful for us in using Chalean Extreme in our home. We do not have a home gym; therefore, we generally exercise in the den when doing DVDs. Chalean Extreme is designed to force progression. If you can easily do a workout (or don't reach fatigue) in the prescribed number of reps, Chalean says you should go heavier next time. If  five pounds are too light and twenty-five pounds are too heavy, and one doesn't have any weights in between, what's to be done? Run out and buy some 15 pound weights? We don't have room for twenty different sets of weighted dumbbells (though we have about four) in our den. Our SelectTechs allow us to "dial" a weight in 2.5 pound increments ranging from (5 pounds to 25 pounds) and then 5 pound increments (25 pounds to 50 pounds).

Exercise Data Trackers

This GPS watch makes it easy to keep up with stats and progress. This model includes a hear rate monitor.I use a Garmin 110 to keep up with my pace and calories burned when walking, running, or cycling.
